The concept features ammonia-capable main engines and oversized ammonia tanks.
DNV assessed the design against its own and international standards, covering the ammonia fuel system, propulsion setup, and safety measures.
The consortium includes global container shipping firm Mediterranean Shipping Company’s (MSC), and Chinese firms Zhoushan Changhong International and CIMC ORIC.
“Ammonia-dual fuel options are firmly in the decarbonization race, we have gone from concept to orders, and soon will see the first deliveries,” said DNV senior vice president Norbert Kray.
