TUI Cruises has taken delivery of the second of two LNG-capable cruise ships from Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri at the company’s Monfalcone shipyard in Italy.

Mein Schiff Flow is designed for dual fuel operations and can run on both LNG and conventional marine fuels.

The vessel is equipped with catalytic converters, a steam turbine that recovers residual heat from the diesel generators and shore power connectivity.

These features will help enable emissions-free operations while the cruise ship is berthed in port, which could account for approximately 40% of its operational time, the shipbuilder said.

The vessel’s waste treatment system can transform organic materials into recyclable components through a thermal process.

The 160,000-gross tons (GT) ship has a capacity to carry approximately 4,000 passengers.

Last year, Fincantieri signed a contract to design and construct two separate LNG dual-fuel cruise ships for TUI cruises, with deliveries scheduled for 2031 and 2032. The vessels will join the company's sister ships, Mein Schiff Relax and Mein Schiff Flow.

Carnival Corporation subsidiary Princess Cruises has also signed a deal with the Italian shipbuilder to build three LNG dual-fuel cruise ships.
