The LNG bunkering terminal is under development on Shoal Point in Texas and is expected to start operations in 2028.
It will supply LNG by barge to vessels calling at the ports of Houston, Galveston and Texas City.
GLBP did not disclose the name of the shipping company but said it will start supplying from 2029, using a Jones Act-compliant bunker vessel.
The Jones Act is a U.S. law that requires any ship transporting goods between two U.S. ports to be built in the United States, owned by U.S. citizens, flagged in the U.S., and crewed mainly by Americans.
GLBP also said that it is in negotiations with several international shipping companies in the container and car segments for the remaining volumes of the terminal’s initial phase.
The terminal is being developed in two phases with a total capacity of up to 720,000 gallons per day accompanied by two 3-million-gallon storage tanks.
