GLBP inks deal to supply LNG for bunkering in the US Gulf Coast

September 13, 2024

Galveston LNG Bunker Port (GLBP) has entered a partnership with gas transportation company Energy Transfer’s Houston Pipeline Company (HPL) to supply LNG for bunkering at its proposed 300,000-gallon per day capacity LNG bunkering terminal in Texas City, US.

The agreement outlines the gas supply and necessary pipeline infrastructure to deliver natural gas to the GLBP facility. This supply deal enables GLBP to provide LNG to vessels in the Galveston Bay Port complex, covering the ports of Houston, Galveston, Texas City, and the Galveston Offshore Lightering Areas, on a long-term basis.

Cruise ships, RoRo car carriers and container ships are notable vessel types using LNG as fuel, due to their large bunker needs and key presence in the Galveston Bay port complex, GLBP says.

The proposed terminal is currently under development and is expected to be operational by the first half of 2027.

In May, GLBP applied for a permit from the US Army Corps of Engineers to build its proposed LNG bunkering terminal.
