Under the agreement, KR and Hanwha Ocean will develop two LNGBV design concepts, each incorporating a different cargo containment system to cater to varying bunkering and operational requirements.

Hanwha Ocean will lead the basic design and vessel performance assessment, including the development of the cargo tank arrangement, LNG bunkering system and overall operational concept.

KR will review the designs from the early development stage, focusing on safety, regulatory compliance and operational efficiency in line with applicable international conventions and classification rules.

The growing fleet of LNG-capable vessels is increasing the need for LNG fuel supply infrastructure. This, in turn, is driving demand for LNG bunkering vessels capable of carrying out ship-to-ship LNG fuel transfers at sea, KR said.
