The fuel was supplied by three tank trucks to a ferry in the Sicilian port during an operation that spanned around 10-12 hours.
Molgas started its LNG bunkering operations in Italy in April 2024, when it supplied the fuel by truck-to-ship method.
Overall, LNG bunkering is slowly picking up in Italy. Last month, Bunker supplier Axpo’s Italian arm, Axpo Italia, delivered LNG to a dual-fuel cruise ship by Axpo’s LNG bunker tanker Green Zeebrugge at the Port of Naples.
Earlier this year, Italian shipping company GNV has completed the first LNG bunkering of its LNG-capable vessel GNV Aurora at the Port of Genoa in Italy. This supply was also carried out by Axpo Italia using the same bunkering vessel.
In December last year, Axpo supplied liquefied biomethane (LBM) to a dual-fuel ro-pax vessel at Genoa using Green Zeebrugge.
Last year, Edison carried out its first ship-to-ship LNG bunkering operation of a container vessel in Italy.
