Bremenports, which comprises the ports of Bremen and Bremerhaven, has installed an onshore power supply (OPS) facility at its car terminal for car carrier vessels.

EU regulations will require berths used by container ships, ferries and cruise ships at major European ports to be equipped with shore power from 2030.

“This obligation does not yet exist for RoRo ships, which makes it all the more important that we are taking the lead here today,” said Kristina Vogt, Germany’s senator for economic affairs, ports and transformation.

This operation also marks the first time in Europe that a car carrier has been supplied with shore power “while docked at the overseas port of Bremerhaven.”
