Svitzer bunkers first London harbour tug with HVO 100

Towage provider Svitzer has bunkered its harbour tug Svitzer Thames with 100% Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO 100) at London Gateway.

The operation marks the first time one of the company's London-based harbour tugs has been fuelled with the renewable diesel.

The company said the switch from conventional marine diesel to HVO 100 can significantly reduce annual CO2 emissions.

However, it did not disclose the volume bunkered or identify the fuel supplier.

The latest operation follows a similar milestone in February, when Svitzer bunkered its service vessel Svitzer Bargate with HVO 100 at the Port of Southampton in the UK.
