Wah Kwong NatPower eyes electric vessels and shore power network in Hong Kong

Electric shore power infrastructure firm Wah Kwong NatPower (WK NatPower) has partnered with Aberdeen Restaurant Enterprises to explore the electrification of piers, vessels and supporting energy infrastructure in Hong Kong’s Aberdeen area.

The two companies will assess the development of an integrated marine electrification ecosystem across Aberdeen and Shum Wan, covering shore power facilities, vessel-charging infrastructure and battery energy storage systems. The collaboration will also include the development of electric vessels for transportation and tourism.

As an initial phase, the partners will examine the construction of a series of electric and transport vessels for operations in the area.

The partnership builds on WK NatPower’s recent efforts to expand electrification infrastructure across China’s inland waterways. Earlier this month, the company partnered with the investment arm of Jiangsu Port Group to develop an electrification network for inland waterway vessels in Jiangsu province.

In April, WK NatPower partnered with Huzhou Wuxing Ruituo Energy to develop a network of charging and battery-swapping facilities for electric vessels across major inland waterways in China.
