The facility will become operational by 2026, enabling ships to use green electricity when docked, a spokesperson from the port authority told ENGINE.

The installation will use green electricity derived from wind and solar energy resources, the spokesperson said.

The shore power facility will be installed at the Zweedse Kaai cruise terminal also known as the Swedish Quay in Zeebrugge. The terminal is operated by the port authority.

The port authority will receive funds from the EU’s Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Facility (AFIF) programme. The AFIF programme aims to boost the deployment of supply infrastructure for alternative fuels to decarbonise European ports and terminals, railways, roads, and airports.
