Around 334,000 cbm (150,000 mt) of LNG was supplied to vessels in the port last year, the Port of Algeciras Authority said, citing figures from gas association Gasnam.

Approximately 52,000 cbm (23,000 mt) of bio-LNG was delivered in the port, according to Gasnam’s data.

A total of 78 ship-to-ship LNG bunkering operations were carried out during the year.

There are currently nine LNG bunkering barges operating in the Iberian Peninsula, with another four under construction, the port authority said.

Axpo Iberia, Shell and Peninsula conduct LNG bunkering operations in Algeciras, while Enagas is a major producer of biogas in Spain, according to the port authority.

LNG bunker sales in Rotterdam rose 5% year on year to about 447,000 mt in 2025.

Earlier this year, Gasnam said the Iberian Peninsula could overtake the Netherlands as a bunkering hub for LNG and its lower-emission variants.
