Destination Gotland, a subsidiary of Swedish ferry operator Gotlandsbolaget, operates ferry services between Gotland and the Swedish mainland.

Two vessels in its fleet are equipped with dual-fuel engines capable of operating on methane-based fuels along with conventional fuels.

The ferry operator has purchased "large volumes" of LBM from St1 Biokraft to fuel these vessels during the summer travel season and Almedalen Week, an annual political event being held in Visby from 22-26 June.

Physical deliveries will be carried out by bunker supplier Avenir LNG in the Port of Visby.

Destination Gotland has scheduled up to 18 daily sailings between the Swedish mainland and Visby during the summer season, according to ferry booking platform Direct Ferries.

The delivery volumes correspond to fuel for around "30 one-way trips between Visby and Nynäshamn," St1 Biokraft said.

This marks the first time St1 Biokraft will supply LBM to the shipping sector in the Baltic Sea, according to the company's head of sales, Sohrab Moshiri.

“The Swedish production capacity is still under construction, but our ambition is to increase our own capacity so that in the future we can deliver only Swedish gas to this type of customer,” Moshiri said.
