Malaysia’s Muar LNG project progresses towards 2027 debut

Muar LNG's bunker hub at Malaysia's Maharani Freeport is "taking shape" to provide wharf-to-ship LNG bunkering for vessels of all types, according to the company's founder and technical director, Hans Hvide.

Singapore-based Muar LNG, and its sister company, Straits Bio-LNG, are developing an integrated LNG storage and bunkering terminal at the Maharani Freeport Industrial Park in Muar, along the Strait of Malacca.

The first phase, scheduled to begin operations in 2027, will include 135,000 cbm of LNG storage capacity and two dedicated LNG bunkering berths.

It will offer wharf-to-ship bunkering as well as reloading facility for LNG bunker vessels.

A second phase would double the storage capacity and add a third dedicated bunkering berth, although no timeline has been announced.

The terminal will also feature a full boil-off gas management system and shore power facilities.
