Changes in Rotterdam’s bio-bunker sales between 2024 and 2025:
- Bio-VLSFO sales down by 1,03,000 mt to 337,000 mt
- Bio-HSFO sales down by 66,000 mt to 98,000 mt
- Total bio-MGO sales up by 54,000 mt to 108,000 mt
- Bio-ULSFO sales down by 8,000 mt to 87,000 mt
- Bio-methanol sales up by 8,000 mt to 12,000 mt
- Bio-LNG sales up 7,000 mt to 8,000 mt
In 2025, volumes of bio-bunkers sold at the port of Rotterdam fell by 14% compared to 2024, even though sales of certain bio-fuel types recorded strong growth, according to Rotterdam Port Authority data.
Bio-VLSFO sales slumped 23% since 2024, to around 337,000 mt in 2025. Despite the fall, the grade accounted for 52% of all bio-bunker sales in 2025 and made up around 3% of all marine fuel sales at the port.
Sales of bio-MGO have doubled to around 108,000 mt in 2025. Compared to 2024's 7%, bio-MGO's share in the total biofuels sold at the port increased to 17% in 2025.
At 98,000 mt, the sales of bio-HSFO fell 40% in 2025, compared to 164,000 mt a year earlier.
Bio-ULSFO sales dropped by around 9% to 87,000 in 2025, compared to 95,000 mt sold in 2024.
About 8,000 mt of liquid biomethane, or bio-LNG, was sold in 2025, about six times more than in 2024.
Suppliers in Rotterdam sold around 12,000 mt of bio-methanol volumes in 2025, almost a threefold increase from 2024.
