CMA CGM launches methanol-capable container vessel

French shipping company CMA CGM has launched its latest methanol-capable container vessel, CMA CGM Alceste.

The 15,000 TEU newbuild is equipped with a dual-fuel engine capable of operating on both methanol and conventional marine fuels. The vessel is one of six being built by China’s Dalian Shipbuilding Industry (DSIC).

CMA CGM has not disclosed the vessel's intended deployment.

The delivery adds to the company’s growing alternative-fuel fleet. Earlier this year, CMA CGM took delivery of the methanol-capable CMA CGM Roi Arthur in August, CMA CGM Berenice in June, CMA CGM Esmeralda and CMA CGM Silver in April, and CMA CGM Carmen and CMA CGM Osmium in March.
